Bitcoin Has Become a Treasury Asset — What Q4 2025 Corporate Adoption Tells Us
Tony Ward | Bitcoin Treasury Advisory | 14 Mar 2026
The corporate Bitcoin treasury story accelerated significantly in the second half of 2025. Here is what the adoption data actually shows and what it means for UK companies still evaluating.
MicroStrategy, now rebranded Strategy, crossed 500,000 Bitcoin held on its corporate balance sheet in late 2025. Marathon Digital, Metaplanet in Japan, and dozens of smaller public companies continued systematic accumulation. In the UK, Smarter Web Company maintained its position as one of the first publicly listed UK companies to hold Bitcoin as a treasury asset.
The pattern across these companies is consistent. They are not trading Bitcoin. They are not speculating on price. They are holding a fixed-supply asset as a structural hedge against the monetary expansion that makes holding cash in fiat increasingly costly.
The Q4 2025 data also showed acceleration in the number of privately held companies implementing Bitcoin treasury strategies. These companies do not issue press releases. They are UK SMEs and HNWIs who have done the analysis, built the governance framework, and made a quiet, deliberate allocation.
The trajectory is clear. Bitcoin treasury allocation has moved from the fringe to the mainstream of corporate finance thinking. The companies that will look back on this period most favourably are the ones who acted with structure and conviction during the period when most of their competitors were still waiting for certainty that will never arrive.
