Why Smart UK Directors Are Looking Beyond Gilts in 2026

Tony Ward | Bitcoin Treasury Advisory | 2 Apr 2026

Most UK directors with surplus cash are sitting in gilts or money market funds yielding around 5%.

On £2,000,000 that is £100,000 a year before tax. After UK dividend tax at the additional rate, it is £60,650. £5,054 a month.
That feels safe. It is not keeping pace.

The Income Gap Nobody Is Talking About

Strategy's STRC instrument is paying 11.50% monthly dividends right now. On the same £2,000,000 that is £19,166 every month. £139,495 after additional rate dividend tax annually. £11,624 a month.

More than double the after-tax income on identical capital.

That gap is not a minor rounding difference. On £2,000,000 it represents over £78,000 a year in additional after-tax income. That is the cost of defaulting to the conventional option without examining the alternatives.

Where the Capital Actually Goes

But the more important story is not the yield. It is where that capital goes.

Every pound invested in STRC is deployed to acquire spot Bitcoin held on the balance sheet. Not derivatives. Not synthetics. Not a fund structure with counterparty risk buried in the small print. Actual Bitcoin, verifiably held.

The capital chasing an 11.5% yield is becoming one of the most consistent and growing sources of spot Bitcoin demand globally. That demand is structural, not speculative. It compounds as more capital rotates toward the instrument.

The Bigger Picture

The yield attracts the capital. The capital buys the Bitcoin. The Bitcoin appreciates against the currencies being debased to service the debt that is making gilts look increasingly fragile in the first place.

UK gilt yields are rising across the curve. The 30-year is at 5.56%. The bond market is telling you something the bank statement is not. When governments cannot service debt without central bank intervention, the purchasing power of every currency-denominated instrument absorbs the cost.

Bitcoin sits outside that system entirely. Fixed supply. No central bank. No printer. No government mandate that can alter the fundamentals.

Most UK Directors Are Not Having This Conversation Yet

The ones who understand it earliest will be best positioned.

This is not a recommendation to invest in STRC or any specific instrument. It is an observation that the conventional treasury assumption, cash and gilts as the safe default, deserves serious scrutiny in the current environment.

If you want to understand how forward-thinking UK businesses are approaching treasury strategy right now, start with the numbers.
